Galder’s Passionate Blog

What's the point of living if you can't love or hate?

Geeks get things done. They’re possessed. They can’t help themselves.

wired_logo_reducedFrom time to time I buy Wired magazine which contains a great mix of science related articles. While reading September 2009’s issue, I found what is, in my humble opinion, the quote of the year and possibly one of the best quotes I’ve heard in my life:

Geeks get things done. They’re possessed. They can’t help themselves.

The quote is from a man called Larry Rosenstock and it was used in article called “Revenge Of The Nerds” that promoted an education where kids embrace their inner geeks in order to achieve better results. Pushing kids to work on groups in order to create something and then present their work to outsiders, including adults, is seen as as a great combination to get kids excited in learning and making education cool.

As a computer scientist myself, I feel totally identified with the quote because I can feel that something which possesses geeks. That something that pushes me, having just advanced to a console game’s next level, to carry on playing rather than going to bed, or to work on next improvement to my personal site, or to work on my next software development assignment…etc
